Like Beluga caviar and Persian carpets, Saffron is another example of luxury that we simply cannot live without. Although saffron can grow in harsh conditions, it cannot simply be grown just anywhere. The region specific for the finest saffron has the perfect humidity, temperature, soil type and skilled people whom through generations of being in the family business of growing and picking the flowers, have mastered the timing, efficiency and segregation procedures of selecting only the finest saffron plants to be picked. 1kg of saffron comes from approximately 200,000 saffron flowers since each flower only produces 3-4 strands of stamen (saffron strands being the stamen of the Crocus sativus flower.
